DOINĂ COLLECTION

Doină is longing, made wearable. It is inspired by the traditional Romanian costume and translated into modern tailoring. Hand embroidery becomes laser-engraved detail, folk motifs are reinterpreted rather than replicated, and wool, linen, leather, and natural hair are layered until each piece carries the weight of ritual while reading unmistakably modern.

At its center is “dor”, the untranslatable ache of longing, shaping open lapels, engraved shirting, and silhouettes that shift between precision and looseness. The muse is someone who is not warrior but wanderer: fragility held as a form of strength.

JALZ is born from the intersection of love and fear. It is inspired by the improvisational spirit of jazz and the fragility of memory. Vanishing pockets and disrupted stripes balance precision with playfulness, structured yet weightless, like a suit jacket draped over shoulders in a half-remembered dream.

Details fade in and out the way thoughts do at the edge of recall. JALZ is menswear as a conversation between memory and motion, always in motion, never quite still.

The Story Behind The Label

ORIGINS

Bucharest, science,
and a summer
that changed the
plan.

I grew up in Bucharest in a family of scientists. Both my parents are doctors, and for most of my childhood, so was my plan. Maths, biology, physics: that was my world, and a creative career wasn’t really on the table. Then, in high school, I did a summer course at Istituto Marangoni in Miami, and something shifted. I wasn’t sure yet what to do with it, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

It was only in my first year of university that it clicked. Pattern making, I realised, is where science and creativity actually meet: the logic and precision I’d grown up with, applied to something I could feel and shape with my hands. I spent that year collecting every kind of experience I could, from showrooms and production to marketing and time in an atelier.

THE BRAND

The collection that
became a house.

SPEED was born in my final year, when I finally had the freedom to build a collection from scratch. I sat down and tried to map out everything I loved: sports, Formula 1, jazz, science, nature, and realised the thread running through all of it was speed. That became the foundation for a menswear-rooted brand built on smart construction and tailoring, with an oversized, deconstructed language I could use to say what I actually wanted to say.

I never set out to build a brand. I set out to make a collection. But people kept telling me they wanted to wear it, and that’s how SPEED started. My first muse was a jazz player with Alzheimer’s, and the illustration I made of him became something people started recognising before they recognised my name: my “weird ugly man.” Because of the oversized fit, women started buying the clothes too, and what began as menswear became, quite naturally, unisex.

Materials & Roots

Made close to home,
built to move.

Sustainability has been part of SPEED since the beginning. The first collections were made entirely from dead stock fabric, and as production has grown, I’ve moved toward natural materials sourced and made in Romania. That choice is also personal: it’s part of why I moved back home, to work with local artisans and stay close to the culture I come from.

That culture has become a real part of the story I tell through SPEED. One of my proudest collections drew on the traditional Romanian costume, reworked, not reproduced, and it’s been the most meaningful response I’ve had so far. There’s something quietly powerful in showing the world a more modern, more personal version of where I’m from, while still being unmistakably rooted in it.

Today, SPEED sits across two registers: a premium ready to wear line, and a smaller, premium to luxury leather line that’s becoming my real signature. The brand is still growing, still finding its shape, and so am I. But it’s built to last, not to be a one season story.
